Please be mindful when out walking with your dog

It has been reported last week that a dog, or dogs, killed at least 17 sheep in a field in East Coker and injured many more.

Quite apart from the trauma inflicted on the rest of the flock, we are mindful of the economic and psychological effect on the farmers involved.

Although we regularly have to ask dog-owners to keep their pets under control at all times, and especially when near livestock, this tragic event should serve as a reminder that famers are entitled to shoot dogs that attack their animals.

Please be mindful when out walking with your dog, especially where livestock are grazing. Either avoid the area completely or ensure that your dog is on a lead.
